As the years go on, it gets harder to remember what people actually put in their cleverly named frozen treat if we didn’t write it down at the time and, since people ask “what as {foo}” fairly often, I’d like to try to be able to remember.
If you’ve ever made ice cream that wasn’t plainly named, (take a look at if you don’t remember!) please take a moment and mail ice-cream (or post to the lj) with any explanations you might have.
Thanks!
Hey folks – JB is hoping to have a Baitcon 25 t-shirt but he’s not an artist.
Anyone interested in submitting a design? If so, send to bcc at baitcon dot org before May 8th!
Thanks!

Hi folks – a friendly reminder to anyone planning to attend Baitcon this year – the reg costs go up on Sunday June 16th.
And a very important note: anyone wishing to or planning to attend MUST be registered by June 25th.
There is no admittance for unregistered or late-registered guests this year. None. Nada.
As usual, we welcome newcomers as long as you received this invite directly from us or a previous attendee and contact us BEFORE you register and your friend (previous attendee) will also be attending Baitcon XXIV. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
Hey parents&guardians of kids coming to Baitcon!
We will once again be setting aside time & space & assistance for kids 0-14 to flavors.
This year this will happen from 4p.-5:30p. on Saturday.
All the details are here:https://wp.baitcon.org/baitcon-xxiv/ice-cream/kids-ice-cream/ and we ask that you & your family read that page before arriving at Baitcon.
We wanted to highlight an Important change this year:
Flavors made during the Kids Ice Cream Creation & Cool session will ONLY be served during the Sunday 3p. Kids Ice Cream Social.
To be clear, this means kids cannot have their batch divided for serving Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Please be sure to share that information with your kid(s).
If your kid wants to make something for the main Running of the Flavors (whether instead of or in addition to a flavor made for the Kids Ice Cream Social), he/she should make their flavor at a different time (or bring it pre-mixed from home), label it & have it frozen any time before 3p. on Saturday. The supplies we provide for Kids Ice Cream (sprinkles and such) are not available for general use. Anything labeled for Kids Ice Cream will ONLY be served on Sunday at 3p.
If you want to be sure to get a taste of your kid’s flavor, we suggest you hang out near the freeze-tent while he/she is finishing their flavor and dip your spoon into whatever tasty concoction your kid has made while it is still in its soft-serve state!
We’re looking forward to gathering on the mountain for another weekend of ice cream-in-the-woods, music, games, wonders of nature, community and LN2. In the next week or so, you’ll start to see more information posted here regarding the specifics of this year’s event – tentative menu, tentative budget, some updates about how ice-cream-making and serving may happen this year, a poll about favorite flavors, etc. If there’s something you’d like to do or host at Baitcon, now is the time to start talking to us and working to make it happen.
If you’re planning to attend but haven’t yet registered, please remember that you must do that before June 24th. Everyone in your group has to be registered. You can get to the registration system via the invitation

The Abode staff is hard at work preparing the mountain camp for us and we are very much hoping for great weather that weekend. This year you’ll once again see the lovely Baitcon banner at the arrivals tent too – made by Donna Dube and recently entrusted to our care – it will truly be a welcome sight.

You should all be checking the pull-down menus for important info about What to Bring, Rules, Menu, etc. But first, you should read this & take it seriously. Thanks!
This is direct from Dr. Jen, who has the utmost hope & care for the health of our attendees.
There are signs that this might be the worse year for Lyme disease EVER in New England. So as you pack for our favorite annual weekend in the woods a la mode, please consider what you can do to avoid getting bitten by ticks.
One trick is to wear long pants, and tuck the pants into your socks. The ticks can’t find their way to your skin. Plus, this is a great way to show off the purple-and-pink argyle socks you’ve been saving for a special occasion.
Another trick is to use tick repellents. Products with DEET are good insect repellents — they do a pretty good job at keeping mosquitoes away — but ticks aren’t insects. For them, look for products containing permethrin. Spray your socks and the bottom part of your pants (inside and out for the pants!) with the repellent. Permethrin goes on the clothes, DEET goes on the skin. Now, some folks may be sensitive to permethrin. If you’ve ever had a bad reaction to Elimite or Nix (creams and shampoos used for scabies and lice), you might not want to use permethrin on your clothes. Also, cats are REALLY REALLY sensitive to this stuff. If you have a cat, don’t put this stuff on your clothes when you’re at home; wait until you get to the mountain.
If you do get bitten, the chances of getting Lyme are greatly reduced if you get the tick off within 24 hours. But ticks are small, and you might not be able to see them yourself. We’ll bring the magnifying glass; you decide who you’d like to ask for a tick check.
Thanks!
There is an important part of the rules that we CAN NOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH:
Absolutely NO marking on, drawing on, or altering of structures at the site without the express permission of the Baitcon Executive Committee. This applies particularly to the Sanctuary, the Labyrinth, and other sacred structures.
Not obeying this rule will make you subject to expulsion, and puts all of Baitcon at risk.
